Style is the first thing people notice and the last thing they forget. Introducing Motto—the very first menswear shop in Geneva Illinois at the historic Third St. shopping district.

Steve Quinn is the owner and also happens to be a great friend and mentor of mine. So when he explained his vision for opening up a menswear shop, I jumped at the opportunity and started using terms like “we” and “our”…yeah—I basically forced my way into Steve’s project. Ha!

Together, Steve and I spent our entire weekends and some week nights working on the shop for three straight months. I was tasked with developing the brand identity under his direction as well as the buildout of the space. It's an amazing space—located in the basement unit directly below his wife's wildly successful boutique for women, Flourish.

We did tons of research on menswear and attended a men's clothing convention in Chicago. This not only helped us (well, me mostly) understand the wholesale to retail model, but also grew our network of people and products we wanted to include in the shop.



Motto's selection of products is carefully curated. We wanted products that were reflective of the shop's ethos—stand for something and be inspired. We didn't want junk that you could get on Amazon, but rather quality products that could be discovered and perhaps never seen before.



The shop also features a small lounge, perfect for any dude who might want to take a load off and just hang out. P.S.—there's a mini-fridge with some brewskis in it. ;)

The brand consists of a sturdy logo, masculine typography, grays, blacks, and a hint of copper. What else says swag more than a square business card with copper foil edges?
